Support

The work of our paid staff is enhanced by the skills and knowledge that volunteers bring. They are valued members of Age Concern and can expect to be involved in the day to day activities of the organisation.

We hope that people will enjoy being involved with us, but there is, of course, a serious side to what we do, so we want to make sure that we get the right people, and support them to help them carry out their roles

To help us do this we offer:
  • 40p per mile for use of car, or reimbursement of bus fares
  • a clear understanding of their role(s)
  • regular support meetings
  • a booklet which gives background information to how we work
  • an annual "thank you"
  • two outings a year
  • an Agreement which sets out our responsibility and commitment to our staff ... and theirs to us
  • insurance while working with us

Some of our staff at this year's "big night out".
Volunteers who have been with us for more than five years received long-service certificates.

To help our staff to carry out their role safely, we ask that they learn about our procedures for :
  • confidentiality
  • health and safety
  • personal safety

... as well as any extra support they might need in relation to their task. For example, procedures for handling food.

We think it's important for everyone to keep up-to-date with their skills and with changes which affect what we do. With that in mind we support them to expand their knowledge and personal development.
